Course Description
Each week we will focus on a different main theme, yet all themes are always present.
Week 1 - "Deepening Grounded-ness"
Grounding in the present moment through the neutral sensations of ground and breath is the basis for embodied meditation. We de-emphasize identification with thoughts and feelings, returning, over and over, to the ever-present support of the earth and air. Groundedness is the experience of coming home.
Week 2 - "Expanding Spacious-ness"
Meditation does not happen inside the body (only), it always occurs in a larger space. We cannot know ourselves "in" ourselves, we are always in relationship to the environment of the moment. Sensing spaciousness allows openness as our self-contractedness eases. Spaciousness frees us from the constriction of mind/body, like taking off a tight shoe
Week 3 - "Exploring 'True I'-ness"
Much vaster than our historic self-identity, is the larger space of the "True I of Awareness". All of our past experiences and even our fundamental characteristics - gender, age, nationality, etc.- live within and, hopefully, in service to this larger space. Like the vast blue sky and warm sun, this "I of Awareness" welcomes and includes the clouds and birds of past history but is not limited by or defined by them. Connecting to "True I - ness" allows us to uncover the gifts that we are each here to bring.
Week 4 - "Uncovering 'True We'-ness"
We are relationship first! The direction of our meditation is to experience our inseparability from others. To sense both our individuality, our agency, and our inter-dependency is essential for deep satisfaction in this life. When meditation is focused on "self" it becomes another, often subtle, form of narcissism. "True We-ness" brings us to the realization of connectivity to all life, inviting compassion and caring toward all.
